HAVE QUESTIONS ABOUT OUR DEBIT CARDS?

How do I apply for a debit card?

If you don’t already have a debit card connected to your Citizens State Bank account, you can apply for one at any time – as long as you have a Citizens State Bank checking account. Call us, or visit a Client Service Specialist at any branch to order one of our new EMV Contactless Chip cards.

How much does it cost?

Your checking account comes with a debit card at no additional charge.

If you need a replacement card, one can ordered for you and mailed to your home, or have one instantly issued in any of our branches. If you would like a new contactless EMV chip card, before your current card expires, you may visit any of our branches and one of our Client Service Specialist will be happy to order one for you. Your card will be delivered to you by mail approximately 5 to 7 days later.

What is an EMV chip card?

EMV stands for Europay, Mastercard and Visa and is the new global standard for security. The small chip you can see on the card is a microchip that is used to authenticate and authorize transactions.

How does the EMV chip work?

This chip creates an encrypted unique set of data to authentic every individual transaction, unlike the traditional magnetic strip that uses the same authentication data for all transactions. By varying this data every time you use the card, it is harder for criminals to steal and copy that data. As a result this technology helps protect your personal information and decreases the risk of counterfeit fraud.

Why does my EMV chip card still have a magnetic strip on it?

Because EMV Chip cards are relatively new to the U.S. not all vendors/merchants have upgraded their point of sale terminals to be EMV chip card compatible. In this case you can still use the magnetic strip on the card. However, if the terminal is EMV chip card compatible, and you swipe your card first, the terminal will most likely prompt you to insert the card instead

What about recurring payments on my old card?

Unfortunately because you will be issued a new card number, any recurring payments on your old card will need to be updated.

When will I receive my EMV chip card?

You will receive your EMV chip card when your current card expires, or if it is lost or stolen. If you would like an EMV chip card before your current card expires, you may visit any of our branches and one of our Client Service Specialist will be happy to order one for you. Your card will be delivered to you by mail 5 to 7 days later.

How do I use my EMV Chip card?

Contactless EMV chip cards work by a simple tap and go technology.  If the merchant is not setup to accept contactless payments, the EMV card works by inserting, sometimes called dipping, instead of a swiping the card. You insert the card into the terminal, chip first and face up, and leave the card in. When prompted by the terminal enter your PIN or sign the receipt. After the transaction is complete the terminal should prompt you to remove you card.
